A long journey, step by step
In the 1970s, two visionary entrepreneurs, Laura Camis De Fonseca and Livio Tamagno, embarked on a long journey along the Silk Road, following in the footsteps of Marco Polo. That adventure gave rise to the intuition that still guides our every step today.
In fifty years and hundreds of millions of slippers produced, we have become the Italian leaders in the sector, continuing to cultivate the same desire for discovery. Our customers have accompanied us along the way, transforming a family business into an international company with offices in Turin, Milan, Shanghai, Moscow and Dubai. What has never changed is the passion we put into every detail. After all this time, make yourselves comfortable.
1970s
The East and the discovery of the traditional Chinese cloth shoes
During a trip to the East, Laura Camis De Fonseca and Livio Tamagno were fascinated by the typical cotton slippers of local tradition. On their return to Italy, they decided to bring back a few pairs: it was an immediate success, and De Fonseca became the pioneer of a new product category: the slipper.
1980s
New ideas and major successes
The Moppine, funny animal-shaped slippers, were created in the design department: a perfect combination of a slipper and a soft toy. The first television commercials also took shape, introducing De Fonseca to millions of Italians. The numbers increased over these years with the development of an innovative patented packaging: the "cavallotta"- a plastic hanger.
From 2000 to the present day
The conquest of international markets and the production development
Thanks to the ability in developing successful partnerships, De Fonseca has succeeded in introducing the Italian style slipper in the major global markets. As from 2000 a significant boost was given to the production of an increasingly wider range to meet the demand of new international customers, not only for slippers but also for the outdoor lines. This strategy led us to being the Italian leader in the slipper market today.
